General Secretary’s Note

History & Legacy of the Trust

In 1976, the Chaudhry Rahmat Ali Memorial Trust was established by a group of charitable individuals, including Professor Dr S.M.K. Wasti, as a non-profit organization. The trust’s objective was to provide comprehensive health care and educational services to meet the two most basic needs of the neighboring communities. Over the period of 48 years, and with the support of leaders and members of the civil society, there have been many distinguished individuals who served as trustees, chairpersons, or general secretaries, leaving behind an enduring legacy of providing dedicated service to people living in poverty or who have been socially and economically disadvantaged.

Today, the trust serves thousands of community members regularly through five institutions that provide medical and educational services. The trust operates on a cost-recovery basis and reinvests 100% of funds raised for the benefit of patients and students served.

Growth, Capacity Building & Future Expansion

Over the past two years, the Trust Hospital has made significant strides in expanding its capacity and operational capabilities to maximize the use of its existing buildings. There is presently a comprehensive review of the Trust Hospital’s masterplan by some of the industry’s top architects. The new master plan will add hospital services, including additional beds, state-of-the-art operating theatres, modern diagnostic centres, and other related medical services, to ensure comprehensive, high-quality healthcare for the community in the future.

Strengthening Education & Institutional Development

Several large-scale renovation and repair projects have been completed to upgrade the schools’ facilities. The schools have focused on improving educational quality by strictly adhering to the academic calendar, implementing teacher capacity-building programs, and overseeing school administration. The schools have also been strongly encouraged to provide additional non-academic and co-curricular activities and to make full use of the purpose-built campuses, spacious classrooms, and large, tree-shaded play areas to foster students’ holistic development.

Governance, Transformation & Community Support

The Trustees recognize that comprehensive process re-engineering and effective change management are essential to realizing the full potential of the Trust’s hospitals and schools. Aligning our organization with contemporary structures, practices, and standards for modern social enterprises is already underway, enabling us to continue building on our strong legacy and take the Trust to a higher level of impact.

The unwavering contributions and support of the “friends, donors, and well-wishers” of the Chaudhry Rahmat Ali Memorial Trust have been a source of great strength and encouragement for us since day one. Today, that support is extremely important to us as we continue our work to redefine, enhance, and expand our health care and education services to maximize social and financial impact for the broader community.
